Pantera Leather Care Instructions
Leather is one of the most durable and yet luxurious upholstery options. With a little care, your leather will continue to look and feel good and provide you with years of pleasure.
As a market leader in leather design, Pantera also supplies a range of excellent leather care products. All our products have been specifically developed to protect your leather assets against the harsh local environment.
The tanning process leaves a resistant finish on the leather surface, but it is important to keep this resistant coating intact through proper care and maintenance. Once the coating begins to break down, the leather becomes vulnerable to cracking, loss of colour and rotting. The most common agents of break down are grease, sweat and exposure to ultra violet rays.
The importance of regular cleaning and protection of your leather cannot be stressed enough. The life and condition of your leather is in your hands. We have included some easy-to-follow cleaning instructions that will help you achieve the best results.
New leather
It is essential that the leather care instructions be followed to the letter. New leather must be protected at least once every four months and this treatment is usually a condition of the leather warranty.
Used leather
Proper leather care goes a long way to improving the appearance and increasing the longevity of older leather.
Cleaning with Pantera leather cleaner & softener
Pantera leather cleaner is pH-neutral and safe to use on all leather products .It cleans quickly and thoroughly prior to conditioning without requiring excessive amounts of water. What’s more, it won’t damage the stitching.
Important: All leather must be thoroughly cleaned to remove any harmful substances before applying any conditioning or protecting products. Failure to remove dirt (such as dust or body oils) will cause the leather to prematurely deteriorate.
Instructions:
Caution: While it is unlikely that any damage will occur in the use of this product, we strongly advise that you test it by spraying a small amount of product on an out-of-sight area to observe the effect, prior to use.

| Step 1: Spray Pantera cleaner directly onto the leather. You can spray up to 1m² at a time. Allow the cleaner to soak in for a few minutes in order to reach any ingrained dirt. Do not let the surface dry out. Reapply if necessary. |
Step 2: Using a small brush, gently work the cleaner into the leather with small, circular motions. This will lift ingrained dirt. |

Types of leather
There are three basic types of leather each with very different properties, depending on how the leather is treated. Each type is specifically tailored to suit a particular application.
Unfinished leather
![]() |
| Aniline/unfinished leather |
Also called aniline leather, unfinished leather is dyed through and given only a light surface protection. This allows the leather to breathe and leaves it extremely comfortable and soft. This type of leather ages very gracefully and is frequently used to cover furniture. A well-loved sofa in aniline leather acquires its own patina over the years. As with all delicate materials, this natural surface is sensitive and needs careful maintenance.
| Pros: | Feels warm, soft and buttery. |
| Looks very natural. | |
| Cons: | Prone to staining and oiling – very much like cloth. |
| The dye is not UV resistant, so it will fade easily. | |
| Shows scratches very easily. |
Semi-finished leather

| Semi-finished leather |
Semi-finished (or semi-aniline) leather is supple and soft. After being dyed-through, it is given a light pigment coating that makes the leather more durable and easier to care for. Careful dying and surface-finishing methods ensure that the leather maintains a natural, comfortable touch while making it more resistant to wear and tear. Whether it is destined for public or private use, this type of leather works well for furniture or clothing, as it is easy to clean and does not age as visibly as unfinished leather.
| Pros: | Feels warm and soft. |
| Looks very natural. | |
| Less prone to soiling or staining. | |
| Cons: | The dye is not UV resistant, so it will fade easily. |
| Shows scratches very easily. |
Top finished leather
Technical or top finished leather works well in extreme environments, making it the perfect choice for automotive and aircraft applications as well as for use in furniture. It undergoes the same process as aniline and semi-aniline leather, but is given additional pigmented and UV finishing, and other treatment to meet the standards of the automotive and aviation industries. Automotive leathers have lower moisture levels to overcome shrinkage through extreme temeperature build up in vehicles.
As a result, technical leather lacks some of the structure of the natural hide, but it is extremely tough, durable and easy to clean and maintain.
| Pros: | Hard wearing. |
| Easy to clean. | |
| Less likely to stain. | |
| More fade resistant. | |
| Cons: | Doesn’t feel as soft and warm as aniline or semi-aniline leather. |
| Feels slightly firmer than aniline or semi-aniline leather. |
